The quarterly East End neighborhood meeting featured guest speaker Mary L. Baker from the Memphis and Shelby County Office of Planning and Development. Ms. Baker presented a slide show entitled, "Pursuing a Big Vision and Sweating the Details." It helped explain how planning and zoning can help shape neighborhood development and included examples of various levels of development. She also touched on the new proposed Uniform Development Code (UDC).
Ronald Harkavy who represents the potential developers of Overton Square presented a possible site plan and shared some information on the potential redevelopment of Overton Square. Those in attendance had a chance to pose questions. Jason Hood reported on the possible redevelopment of the French Quarter Inn as an assisted living facility. Both of these groups have agreed to meet with neighborhood leaders as they develop their plans.
Jason Hood provided an update on association news including creation of a neighborhood blog. Hemant Gupta will serve as the nominating committee chair person. Contact him if you are interested in serving as an officer or director for 2010.
Several neighbors signed up to serve on one of our neighborhood committees and the Social Committee led by Deborah Mays provided wonderful refreshments.
Don't forget the Fifth Annual East End Halloween Children and Pet Parade, beginning at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 25 on Jefferson between Cox and Edgewood with a potluck to follow (drinks will be provided).
